Project Description
From super heroes to pinup girls posing along side candy and commercial products, Mel Ramos’ art is a critical and an ironic reaction to the cliches conveyed by advertising in the media. Regarded as one of the most significant figures of Pop Art, the Sacramento native continues to paint works that seduce and delight.
Ramos’ paintings are part of the Guggenheim Museum, New York; the De Young Museum, San Francisco; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; the Whitney Museum of American Art; New York, among many other important museums, private and corporate collections.
